Description
Rejoice, it is winter and therefore time for our annual winter wines tasting.
Winter Escape
For one afternoon we’ll take leave from the cold. While we do this, we’ll share an informative and relaxed afternoon of wintery wines paired with wintery foods. The wines will be selected from my favourites at the moment and complemented by ReWine’s own range of fantastic wines (I used to help blend them, I can attest to the quality).
Winter Wines Tasting
Not just any wine will cut it at the depth of winter. You need a special wine for the occasion, one that is comforting, warming and pairs well with the winter meals you love to indulge in. Generally this means ripe fruit, higher alcohol and maybe a bit of tannin. But not always do you need to reach for a Barossa Shiraz! White wines, fortified wines, even Champagne could serve as a winter wine in the correct context. We’ll look a range of styles, textures and flavours to make sure your winter arsenal is giving to see you through the worst of it. The line up will look something like this.
Pheasant’s Tears Tsolikauri Kakheti 2015 – A Georgian white wine that can be served at cellar temperature and with robust foods.
Fighting Gully Road Beechworth Sangiovese 2015 – Sangiovese is perfect for cutting through rich tomato based pasta and pizza. This is one of the best in Australia.
Vinogradi Nuic Blatina Bosnia 2012 – A Bosnian red which offers bags of flavour without the big structure.
Magpie Estate Call Bag Grenache Mourvedre Barossa Valley 2012 – They have bottled the essence of ‘big winter red’.
Domaine La Remejeanne Les Arbousieres Cotes du Rhone 2011 – A rather silky and savoury red this is a sexy winter red that would be amazing with cheese.
Henriques and Henriques Finests Dry 5 year old Madeira NV – Madeira is the greatest style of fortified known to man. I had to stop buying it because it was so delicious I didn’t want to stop drinking it.
Winter Food To Match
ReWine will have just kicked into their winter menu and will offer a range that include jaffles (surely the most noble winter food), woodside cheeses and much more.
No Need To Leave
ReWine is a fully functioning wine bar with plenty of great wine and lovely food. Once you are done tasting you can walk the five metres and sit down to enjoy the rest of your evening in comfort.
