Sicilian Wine

April 18, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

$10

Bona Sira!

Last month we tasted the amazing wines of Burgundy and this month I want you to join me to learn about and enjoy the wines of Sicily.

Importantly
This tasting is a week earlier than normal so we can observe ANZAC Day the following week. Few things are more important than wine, but ANZAC Day is definitely one of them.

Sicily
For a long time was almost the centre of the world. The cultural diversity that this Island at the bottom of Italy has experienced is beyond compare. The grape has always been an important part of Sicily’s history. Even under Arab rule the production was maintained and broadened (albeit with sultanas for table grapes).

But what about the wines?
Well, Sicily often is number one when it comes to quantity produced with only Puglia rivalling it.Quality has often been less important. However there has been a revival of sorts and there are now a lot producers who are using native grapes to make wines of outstanding quality. There are more than a few ‘wow’ wines that come from this part of Italy.

This is your chance
Three importers are coming along to offer you a fine introduction in the the styles and flavours you can expect. As an added bonus we have some Australian examples of Sicilian grapes, because, after all, the climates are not that dissimilar.

Join me this Saturday for a Sicilian Wine Tasting 18th April 2-4pm. $10 per head. Do keep in mind the price of admission is refundable with a modest purchase.
