Description
A wine for all occasions and almost all foods. You can serve it chilled in summer but showing it at cellar temperature in winter will give you a whole new impression of flavour and texture. Floral, white fruits, mineral. Understated on the palate, the acidity is cleansing and refreshing but sits under the beautiful texture. Drink this wine over the next 18 months. I would serve it with baked fish, white cheese or something with pork and polenta.
Founded over a century ago in Friuli and still family run today. The younger generations have brought in new innovations. They have an over arching view to sustainability in the vineyard and winery. Their vineyards contain some old vines (80 years!) and is populated with a mix of tradition and international varieties.
Friuli-Venezia Giulia
In the very North East of Italy you will find this region that displays a noticeable Slavic and Germanic influence in their culture. The regional wines are mostly celebrated for the aromatic, textural and sometimes crazy whites. The region has 11 DOC and 3 DOCG appellations. It is very hard to discern a producers particular style without guidance here. But the wines can and often are outstanding.
Friulano
A variety that grows, not surprisingly, around Friuli in North East Italy. It is aromatic and understate at the same time. It can be quite textural but us equally capable of being a clean and lean drink too. Until 2007 they called this grape Tocai Friulano.
