Description
An elegant expression of Chard and typical of the Willem Kurt style. In the green/yellow fruit expression so not overblown and really well handled oak that adds to the experience. The balance here is near perfect and so this is extremely drinkable. The wine will evolve over a few years for sure. Drink from now until 2025 and beyond. Match with a homemade chicken pie.
Daniel Balzer is a lovely man who has been making wine since 1998. By working at big and small companies he found his feet and developed a philosophy that is timeless; start with healthy grapes from a great vineyard and don’t do anything mess it up. Having tried a few vintages I think he’s doing a stunning job and the wines are priced at a level that you’d be crazy to buy just one bottle. Which is great because they are too tasty to stop at just one bottle.
Beechworth
Built on the fame and drive of Giaconda, the region of Beechworth has a lot to offer wine lovers. With a good diversity of styles from rich Chardonnay to Pinot Noir as well as Shiraz and Cabernet all doing well it is a must visit place.
Chardonnay
The grape that you can plant anywhere, in any climate and do anything to and it will still taste like an OK wine. When people hit the sweet spot of site, climate, cropping and winemaking, Chardonnay becomes a magical wine that will age gracefully but charm you at any age. Chardonnays can range from cool climate lean and citrusy to warmer climate tropical and overt. Oak and lees can add flavouring as can malolactic fermentation.
