Scorpo Pinot Gris is my benchmark for this variety in Australia. In days gone by, I used to await the release and buy 6 (or 12) and put them away for 6 months because they were always better with time to settle.

The 2024 is, without a doubt, everything I remember and love about this wine. It smells of peach, dough, nuts, hints of honey and ginger. The palate is dry, savoury, creamy textured and zesty with a stony, peppery/oystershell finish. The flavours linger and swirl for a long time. Scorpo Pinot Gris is satisfying on two levels (at least!). First as a refreshing, textural drink, but if you sniff with a bit of vigour, swirl in your mouth a bit longer, you get a wine that shows more flavour and tells the story of a well-crafted wine with great heritage and a complexity rarely seen from this grape.

It is a bargain at this price and a must-try wine.

I may be showing my age just a bit to say I remember when Scorpo burst onto the scene. They had a good team from day one and their Pinot Gris was hands down the best in Australia. Having tried it recently, it may still be! They have expanded their offerings and have improved their wines significantly since those early days.
