Description
Reds are the focus of Rosi Schuster. However a gemischter satz (mixed set) white based on Gruner Veltliner is produced. Resembling a field blend it is 80% Gruner with a selection of diverse varieties planted therefore the Schusters have options when blending. These options lead to a rather complex and engaging wine. Spice, caramel, ripe apricot, texturally quite plush and long finishing. It changes a lot in the glass and aces the task of refreshing when chilled but Chardonnay-esque weight when at cellar temperature. Drink over the next 5 years with roast chicken, salumi or mushroom risotto.
Founded during 1979 in the unheralded Burgenland region. Now  in charge of his parents organically farmed 11 hectare estate is Hannes Schuster. Their focus is on red varieties Sankt Laurent and Blaufrankisch.
Burgenland
‘Powerful wines from the land of Sunshine’. The large 13,840ha area of Burgenland on the Eastern border offers a great diversity of wine styles. Neusiedlersee in the north is the home of Zweigelt. Mittelburgenland is where Blaufrankisch finds a natural home.
GrĂ¼ner Veltliner
The jewel in the crown of Austria. GrĂ¼ner Veltliner wines are reminiscent of Riesling but often with more density, less overt perfume and more spice. Ages well and becomes a reasonable facsimile of old White Burgundy. Makes up around 30% of total vineyard area.
