Description
Repour is a smart little product. it is a stopper that absorbs oxygen in the bottle. This allows you to keep a wine almost indefinitely. I acquired some samples and put them to use on three delicate wines. A Yarra Valley Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, a 5-year-old Barossa Grenache, and a pale rose. I then left the wines open but with the stopper in place and tasted them regularly over the course of about 2 months.
Each time I tasted the wines they were remarkably similar to the beautiful wine I remember when they were freshly opened. I was so impressed that after two months, I took the three wines to a party with some friends. I poured them the wines and asked their opinions without telling them how long they were open for. Once I revealed the fact they were 2 months open, everyone was amazed.
It is a big thumbs up from me. Repour is a product that I believe works better than coravin with old wines, screwcaps, plastic corks.
How does Repour work?
Open the bottle. Drink what you want. stick a repour stopper in the top. And have a glass/taste/swig as often as you like. You use one stopper per bottle (in theory!) until you are done with that bottle.
Are there any issues?
The only suggestion I have is to wipe the repour with water before inserting to avoid a plastic flavour coming through the wine.
The other thing to consider is to make sure you taste your wines regularly.
