Description
Made by Joel Pizzini, son of Freddie and Katrina who built up the now famous Pizzini winery. Having been lucky enough to spend an afternoon with him and try his wines I think there is a great future yet for the region. Lana is a brand Joel uses to make wine and experiment with what interests him.
Such a wine! Fleshy and fruit driven but savoury and structured. There is a lot of dark fruits, chocolate, and hung meats. But there is a floral lift and some many hints at much more. Great balance. Food is not required but a simple steak would really set this on another plane. There is a bit of room for this wine to improve and become more savoury. Another 5 years in bottle would be interesting.
King Valley – A picturesque region near Victoria’s snow fields that offers cooler climate wines. A strong Italian heritage in the area means there are a lot of Italian varieties grown.
Sangiovese – Widely cultivated across Italy from Emilia-Romagna to Campania and producing as much wine as Barbera. A wide range of clones and hugely diverse growing conditions sees the variety represent easy drinking ‘quaffers’, all the way to benchmarks such as Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti, Sangiovese di Romagna and Morellino di Scansano.
