“Inside Burgundy is the greatest reference work of our generation—actually a number of generations. It is its own benchmark.” Burgundy Report
The first edition of Inside Burgundy was published in 2020. At the time Jasper Morris MW was head of Burgundy purchasing at Berry Bros. & Rudd which gave him amazing access to the best wines, producers and people in the region. This was reflected in the tagline of the book “the vineyards, the wine and the people”.
The Second Edition of Inside Burgundy offers the obsessive Burgundy fans (like me!) expanded coverage of 1,200 vineyards, 300 wine villages and 700 domaines. The detail it goes to is what sets it apart from most reference books. Jasper Morris now lives in Burgundy and so it feels like this book is written from an insiders point of view, not a travelling purchaser.
The book covers all of Burgundy; the Cote d’Or as well as Chablis, Hautes-Cotes, Cote Chalonnaise and Macconais. There are 45 full-colour, high-detail maps. Including some amazing illustrated plot holdings in selected Grand and Premier Cru sites.
Reviews of Inside Burgundy the first edition
“I recommend Jasper Morris’s new tome, Inside Burgundy, an incredibly comprehensive and informative new guide to the region and its wines. At $75, it costs about the same as a good’08 premier cru, and will probably save you a great deal of money and heartache long before you finish reading it.” Jay McInerney, Wall Street Journal
“As its subtitle, the vineyards, the wines & the people indicates, Morris’s book has … personal detail about individual producers, the precise extent of Burgundy’s customary intermarriage, and their favoured winemaking techniques.” Jancis Robinson MW, Financial Times
“As I read I feel that Jasper is acting as my trusted guide through the complexities of this wonderful region. I think he really understands Burgundy –he ‘gets’ it.” Jamie Goode, Wine Anorak
