Description
Hugel Schoelhammer is from vines in the heart of the Schoenenbourg Grand Cru Vineyard. Like the amazing Grossi Laue I first tried this at Hugel’s tasting room in Alsace. This select part of the vineyard has been bottled separately since 2007. It is hard to describe how great his wine is but it was easily one of the top wines we tasted while touring through Alsace, Burgundy, Loire, and Bordeaux.
The vintage produced perfectly healthy grapes, high acidity and superb maturity mean 2014 will be a hallmark vintage, especially for Riesling. Yields were very lower than 2013 or 2010 which meant only 3148 bottles were produced.
It is a real treat to be able to drink a wine of this quality.
