Description
Jeffrey Grosset set the bar for Clare Riesling and no one has ever come close to consistently catching up to his standard. Since 1981 his winery in Auburn, Clare Valley and the man himself have won countless awards and accolades, not least of which was being named as one of Decanters Top 10 White Winemakers. A class act, his wines from other varieties and regions are no less impressive.
Only the third vintage of this wine it is fast finding its feet with a staunchly dry Riesling winemaker philosophy. It has the delicate layers, floral lift and stoney mineral notes of Clare Riesling but with a burst of character at the front of the palate. The finish is still dry, zingy and fresh. Food pairing will range from aromatic Thai to fresh seafood and even more mild game stews. Being under screwcap this wine will live for a long time yet. It’s evolution will be slow and interesting.
Clare Valley – One of the great wine regions of Australia. Known for its boney, citric Rieslings that build flesh with bottle age – a classic Australian style. It can also make some lovely Shiraz and Cabernet.
Riesling – One of the world’s most noble varieties and known transmitter of terroir. Riesling is an important variety for quality wine production although only makes up approximately 4% of the planted area. Wonderful wines are found in Germany, Austria, Alsace and Australia. They can be as dry as any wine you’ll taste or super sweet and luscious. It is a wonderful grape. See more about Riesling here.
