Description
Dominio Do Bibei was set up to take advantage of the wonderful old vine, high altitude vineyards that had been all but abandoned by the previous generation. The clonal material in the ground was of a quality that allows them to make stunning wines. Recent plantings balance out some of the yield issues, increase production and therefore give some more value options.
Lacima is 100% Mencia made from vines aged between 50 and 100 years. The tiny yields result in an intensely fragrant, densely-packed and complex wine, full of gorgeous florals, raspberry fruit and terroir-derived individuality. Crushed raspberries, dried and fresh herbs, floral clean and tight. There is a stony core to this wine and a spine of acid and tannin that make it compelling drinking. Try having just one glass!
Mencia – Similar to Cabernet Franc makes stunning wines from Bierzo, Valdeorras and surrounding regions.
DO Ribeira Sacra – This is about where quality red wines start in Galicia, any further west and the climate and soils favour white wine production. Not nearly as famous as the nearby Bierzo but it certainly has the potential to be. More delicate and elegant than the more Eastern Mencia regions.
Denomination of Origin (DO) – For ‘prestigious Spanish wines’ with five years of recognised quality production. The Consejo Regulador governs the parametres of production.
