Description
Wow! Mengoba has delivered this wine, which is what Mencia is all about. Bright red fruits, floral notes and crunchy acidity. You can’t fault this wine, on the hedonists scale of yum to ecstasy it is on the ecstasy side. It is just the entry level of this producer but shows so much. From the beautiful purple colour to the fruit compote, floral arrangement and a juicy but crunchy palate. Just drink some and enjoy it. Interestingly there is a bit of Garnacha Tintorera which is one of the few red grapes in the world that have red flesh. Drink this Mencia while it is young and fresh. Pair with some black pudding.
A beautiful collection of old, high altitude, goblet trained, organically grown plots in Bierzo are the key to the quality of Mengoba’s wines. Two levels of estate wine then single vineyard releases really capture the essence of the region. Both reds from Mencia and whites from Gordello and Dona Blanco are seriously impressive.
Biezro
