Description
Lovely perfume, clean acidity and really delicate. This is a lovely Sauvignon Blanc made in the Sancerre mould but from Stellenbosch in South Africa. Drink over the next few years and pair with mild green curry.
In 1998 Johan Reyneke Jr took over the family farm. He set about converting to the 40ha Stellenbosch estate to organic and biodynamic viticulture. His aim is to make world class wine from South Africa. From what I’ve tasted, he is doing a great job and offering good value wines too.
Stellenbosch
40km East of Cape Town. The rolling hills give many microclimates within the generally Mediterranean weather patterns. It accounts for nearly 20% of all vines in South Africa. Cabernet Sauvignon is best known here but you can find quality Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc, Shiraz and Pinotage.
Sauvignon Blanc
Hero to many, weed to many more. Sauvignon Blanc sure does divide people. The pure expression of Sauvignon fruit is a stunning and exuberant array of tropical fruits with ripe herbs and plant material. It excels in the chalk, clay and sand of the Loire as well as the wonderful vineyards in Bordeaux for dry white and Sauternes production where Semillon curbs its outgoing nature.
