Reed Rose Marie Tempranillo offers a Joven styled drinking experience. Bottled young and fresh. This is a bright, red-fruited, floral affair. It is soft and juicy in the mouth with a savoury finish. While it is not a hugely overt wine, the balance and nuance really make it attractive to drink. Over summer it will benefit from a slight chill. Drink from now and over the next 3 years. Pair with a charcuterie plate.
Sienna Reed was filming the famous wine estates of New Zealand when their passion inspired her to go from a drinker of wine to a producer of wine. She spent some time travelling the wine world as a winemaker before settling in Geelong and releasing her first wines in 2015.
The glamour region of Victoria for lovers of big reds. And the core production is Shiraz and Cabernet with ‘guts’. But it is a region that offers a lot of diversity when you scratch the surface. The cooler southern parts border Macedon and make lovely aromatic wines. There is a lot of experimentation and adoption of more drought-resistant Italian varieties to great effect too.
A top-quality red grape that grows all over the Iberian Peninsula (with many pseudonyms). It makes Rosado or Joven (released after 6 months) all the way up to Gran Reserva (60 months in the winery). Reserva and Gran Reserva are capable of aging for the long-term (30 years easily). Top examples of aged Tempranillo compare favourably to Burgundy. Cherry and cola are typical flavour descriptors. It has moderate to low acid, moderate tannin and the naturally high pH allows for a silky mouthfeel that is not seen in other red wines.
