The classic blend of Pol Roger Brut Vintage is 60% Noir and 40% Chardonnay which adds body and aromatics with some elegance and length. Full flavoured, on the yeasty/autolytic side and brilliantly balanced, this has the ingredients to age gracefully for a long time, but it is really delicious now. It would be great with crab.
Pol is classic Champagne and my go-to producer from the big houses. The house style is complex, broad and full but with elegance from the acid. Their white label is truly lovely as far as NVs go, the black label vintage is outstanding for drinking or aging, and their Prestige Cuvée ‘Sir Winston Churchill’ is as good as any when given some age.
