Description
Polish Hill River is responsible for some of the best Riesling in Australia. There are a handful of exponents who make examples that really pop, O’Leary Walker happens to be my favourite. Having tried young and old examples I cannot recommend them more. Drink this wine young for the steely, mineral and floral bliss. Or leave it in the bottle for another 7-15 years for the more texture, savoury experience.
Two gentlemen with plenty of years experience making great wine. Since 2000 they have made a great name sourcing fruit from trusted vineyards that they know consistently produce great fruit and crafting enjoyable wines. The Riesling in particular are great value, offering the classic Clare style that will age very well.
Clare Valley
One of the great wine regions of Australia. Known for its boney, citric Rieslings that build flesh with bottle age – a classic Australian style. It can also make some lovely Shiraz and Cabernet.
Riesling
One of the world’s most noble varieties and known transmitter of terroir. Riesling is an important variety for quality wine production although only makes up approximately 4% of the planted area. Wonderful wines are found in Germany, Austria, Alsace and Australia. They can be as dry as any wine you’ll taste or super sweet and luscious. It is a wonderful grape. See more about Riesling here.
