Description
Mestis is their youthful drinking, value wine. Bobal makes up most of the blend with Tempranillo, Grenache Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz making up the rest. It is a bright wine, red fruits, floral, with serious depth on the palate. It is heavier than you would think from the nose but it is soft and round. It’s savoury too. Great for serving with starter dishes or nothing at all really. Drink in the short term which it is fresh and lively.
Mustiguillo was started in 1999 with a focus on producing high quality wine from Bobal, a grape that had been relegated to bulk wine. Toni Sarrion travelled the New World to find ways to make his young vines show great personality. As his vines matured he could start making more intense and complex cuvees. The quality of Toni’s work saw his vineyard be granted it’s own appellation.
DOP El Terrerazo
Mustiguillo were granted the classification of Vino de la Tierra (VDT) El Terrerazo in 2013. An appellation that encompasses only their vineyard. And since 2010 they received a great honour as the first designated Vino de Pago (think Grand Cru vineyard) of the Mediterranean.
Bobal
Bobal is native to Valencia and Manchuela. Making big bunches of high acid, high colour red grapes. It is the third most planted grape and was treated as a bulk wine for the longest time. But in the right hands it makes for an engaging and unique wine.
