Note: Bindi Quartz 2017 will not be available until September.
One of Australia’s truly iconic producers. Those who love wine know and seek out Bindi’s pristine and pure Chardonnays and elegant and finely structured Pinots Noir. They also know that investing in Bindi is investing in your future happiness as, these are definitely wine to age. All grapes are Estate grown at the beautiful Macedon vineyard. Bindi’s vineyard is run using biodynamic principles, and most of the work is done by hand. Any of the Bindi wines fall into the ‘purchase on sight’ category.
At the upper end of the Chardonnay planting there is half a hectare where the quartz incidence increases in the soil. Fruit this site Bindi gets the greatest complexity, finesse and intensity. With fruit of this quality, the winemaking is about preserving the flavours, not masking them. That is why Bindi Quartz is one of the greatest expressions of Chardonnay in Australia.
A wholly underrate region in Australia. With a handful of extremely passionate but miserably small producers it is not surprising that those who know don’t really share the knowledge. Outstanding Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and sparkling wine is made here with a few braving some other varietals too.
The grape that you can plant anywhere, in any climate and do anything to and it will still taste like an OK wine. When people hit the sweet spot of site, climate, cropping and winemaking, Chardonnay becomes a magical wine that will age gracefully but charm you at any age. Chardonnays can range from cool climate lean and citrusy to warmer climate tropical and overt. Oak and lees can add flavouring as can malolactic fermentation.
At Bindi, the 2017 season was a beauty. No days over 40 degrees and plenty of rainfall to alleviate stress.
