Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo

Famously producing long lived red wines. What they lack in colour intensity they compensate for with abundant tannin. Barolo, and Barbaresco are the most famous places to make Nebbiolo based wines. But it is grown throughout the Piedmont region and into the neighbouring regions of Italy too. Typical flavours include: Tar, roses, anise, cherry, blackberry and truffle.

The key to enjoying the wines is to give it time in the bottle. Generally, around 7 years of age will be good but the top wines will last 30-50 years.

Nebbi means fog in the old local dialect and the late budding variety is perfect to avoid the frosty start to a season that most of Piedmont can experience.
