Description

If you ever have been curious what Roussanne tastes like, this is it. Unadulterated by oak or other varieties you see the delicately perfumed, subtle and understated nature. Peach, nectarine, hint of lees, aloe vera. It is very pretty and the palate is plush, viscous and long. Not a lot of phenolics, not a lot of acid but still a satisfying and perfumed finish. Drink with simple and fresh scallops. No need to age just drink and enjoy.

The visionary Hill-Smith family own Yalumba: A grand, old icon of the Australian wine industry. They are capable of making wines from easy drinking cheapies to some of the best and most long lived in Australia. Experimentation with regions, varieties and styles keeps them at the top end of the wine industry. Dismiss them at your peril.

Eden Valley – Perched high above the Barossa, the Eden Valley gives a cooler and longer season compared to the Barossa and therefore makes more elegant and aromatic wines. Blending between the two regions is quite common to get the best of both worlds. Shiraz and Riesling excel in the Eden Valley.

Roussanne– One of the grapes, along with Marsanne, that add texture, structure and sobriety to the Rhone Valley’s ostentatious Viognier. Without their flamboyant partner the wines tend to be rich, understated but very well balanced. In the right hands there is amazing perfume and fruit to be coaxed out.
