Description

Grapes were handpicked from the Warner vineyard in Beechworth, grown from vines planted in decomposed granite soils which allow the vines to naturally manage their yield to ensure optimum fruit quality. The 2012 Warner Vineyard Chardonnay grapes were keenly sought by winemakers far and wide. That seemed like a sensible year for Warner Vineyard to make their maiden Chardonnay vintage.

This wine was made by the very talented Gary Mills of Jamsheed Wines who sources fruit from the Warner Vineyard and is very familiar with its quality and intricacies. Starting with pressing whole bunches and then combining with the pressings and racked to a combination of 1 and 2 year old French oak. Using indigenous yeasts for the fermentation and minimal intervention for 10 months, the resulting wine is true to the vineyard and eloquent wine making style. Bottled in November 2012 its ready for drinking now, or if you like cellar it and let it mature for a while, you won’t be disappointed.

Chardonnay – The grape that you can plant anywhere, in any climate and do anything to and it will still taste like an OK wine. When people hit the sweet spot of site, climate, cropping and winemaking, Chardonnay becomes a magical wine that will age gracefully but charm you at any age. Chardonnays can range from cool climate lean and citrusy to warmer climate tropical and overt. Oak and lees can add flavouring as can malolactic fermentation.
