Description

Your chance to taste a cult winery in the making. You get the classic Bordeaux flavours of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon with the elegance and finesse that you can only get from high altitude viticulture. 61% Malbec and 39% Cabernet Sauvignon from 50 hectare of vines some of which date back to 1948. There is a lot to love about this wine. Bold flavours of aniseed, currants and plums with a hint of oak. Plush mouthfeel, soft tannins and great balance. It is a hint mineral on the finish. This wine gives the impression it will evolve for another 10 years or so. Pair it with some beef empanadas.

Home base is the area of Vistalba in the Upper Mendoza Village of Luján de Cuyo. The winery was built between 2001 and 2004. The first release was 2003. Today they have three wine labels. Broken intosparkling wines, blended reds and straight varietals.

Mendoza

Without question the jewel in the crown of Argentina. A large region. Lots of young and innovative producers have moved in and are slowly mapping out sub-regions and single vineyards of note. Look out for great Malbec but lots of experimentation means you can find all sorts of wonderful wines.

Cabernet Sauvignon

The noble variety of Bordeaux’s left bank. Firm tannins, a streak of acidity and punctuated by flavours of cassis, violets, spice and leather. The best examples can age for the long term. Although Cabernet does often require blending with Merlot, Cabernet Franc or Shiraz to fix the hole it has in its middle palate.

Malbec

Native to South West France, Malbec is a minor player in Bordeaux and the major grape in the underappreciated Cahors. It has long been the star of Argentina. It makes wines that are intense, tannic, dark fruited with nice acidity. Perfect match for a country that consumes a lot of meat.
