Description
Granitic soil with reddish clay, and quartz and iron mineral deposits characteristic of the Apalta terroirs. The soil has a depth ranging between 1.5 and 2 metres and is located 250 to 300 meters above sea level. Pre and Post ferment maceration, 100% French oak (50% new) for 20 months. It’s a full on wine with plenty of ripe fruit and power. There is a lot to love here for Barossa fans. The wine is drinking well now and will easily last another 5 or more years yet. Pair it with big flavours, roast beef or some red meat off the BBQ.
Founded in 1990 and based in the coastal Maipo Valley, they source grapes from all over the country. With former Grange custodian John Duval as a consultant they are making some interesting, new wave wines.
Shiraz/Syrah – A bit of a chameleon, Shiraz can change how it looks depending on terroir and/or wine maker influence. The Syrah based wines of Northern Rhone are dry and austere while the Shiraz of Barossa is rich and fleshy. A variety that lends itself to long aging but can be drunk at any time of its evolution.
