Description

Vietti Perbacco is mostly from sites in Barolo and Barbaresco. These parcels stay separate until they decide if they will be Perbacco or Castiglione. Aged 2 years in barrique and Slavonian casks. With such great provenance, it is no surprise that Vietti Perbacco is a great Nebbiolo that offers great character and ages very well.

Mario Vietti’s first Vietti wines came out in 1919. By 1952, Vietti was one of the top-level Piedmont producers. Vietti is one of the first producers to release single-vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco. Their wines age so well. They have earnt their reputation on the quality of wines they release. You should look out for their Cru Barolo, Barbaresco, and Barbera. Also, Vietti pioneered the revival of Arneis: The local white grape.

Piedmont

Known as one of the greatest wine regions in the world, its name literally means the ‘foot of the mountain’. Piedmont in the North-Western reach of Italy. There are many parallels drawn between the best wines of Piedmont (Barolo and Barbaresco) and the wines of Burgundy. The region neighbours France and Switzerland with its border defined by the Alps to the north and west and Apennines to the south. These natural defences were used to keep the Ligurians safe from Roman invasions. But luckily it didn’t work forever, as we may not have the wines that we cherish today.

Langhe

A recent ‘catch-all’ addition that allows greater flexibility to producers in the established DOC & DOCG regions (such as Barolo and Barbaresco). Used by producers wanting to blend native with international varieties, experiment with aging lengths and newer winemaking practices.

Nebbiolo

Famously producing long-lived red wines which are light of colour, but abundant in tannin. Barolo and Barbaresco in Piedmont are the most famous appellations. Nebbiolo is all over the Langhe, and North Central Italy. You can find decent Nebbiolo is Australia now. Typical flavours include Tar, roses, anise, cherry, blackberry and truffle.
