Description

Obviously handled with care and attention to each variety but also with the final blend in mind. This isn’t an ‘alternative to Chard’ wine but in fact a celebration of the famous Rhone white varieties. Perfumed with lanolin, lemon curd and honeysuckle evident. It is fairly hefty in fruit weight and silky to the end. It is interesting to sit on a glass and watch as each of the varieties characters poke their head out. Delicious drinking now it matched brilliantly with the cured duck, celeriac, honeyed goats cheese, bacon vinaigrette starters at Chiara

There are a handful of world renowned and iconic producers in Australia. Torbreck is absolutely one of them. Their wines are crafted in the vineyards, which is why they not only acknowledge these patches of earth and their custodians but celebrate them too. The control from grape to final bottled product means quality can be closely watched and finessed to get the best result for the wise people who drink their wines. Torbreck’s love of the vine and wine is what attracts me to their wines. That and the wines are delicious drinks.

Barossa Valley

One of the major wine regions or Australia. Known for making great Shiraz by any standard as well as Grenache, Mataro, Semillon and much more. There has been a lot of work finding the sub-regions that excel for each style and variety planted.

Marsanne and Roussanne

The grapes that add, texture, structure and sobriety to the Rhone Valley’s ostentatious Viognier. Without their flamboyant partner the wines tend to be rich, understated but very well balanced. In the right hands there is amazing perfume and fruit to be coaxed out. Marsanne especially has a surprising ability to improve significantly with aging.

Viognier

The flamboyantly aromatic white grape that calls Condrieu in the Rhone Valley home. It’s apricot kernel, viscous nature and floral lift make for quite an intense white. However it also adds perfume, fixes colour and generally beautifies lean and boney Shiraz in the Rhone and around the world.
