Description

Young Xinomavro vines make this wine, however it is quite a treat. It offers a pure cherry, blood orange, smoke and schist, star anise, ironstone, coffee and brown spice with a floral note too. The palate has crisp acidity, is mid to light weight but offers firm fruit tannins and a lovely core of red fruits. This is an extremely complex wine that offers great value.

Apostolos Thymiopoulos, is a rising star of Naoussa. He uses biodynamic farming methods to cultivate his vines. They sit at an altitude of 180 m in the southern sector of the appellation. The terrain is comprised of Naoussa’s most geologically complex soils, made of lime-rich marlstone, schist and granite. Thymiopoulos focuses on expressing the freshness of the grapes and giving each vintage a unique signature. He shuns filtering and extraction and his wines are aged in vats and barrels the old-fashioned way.

The Protected Designation of Origin Naoussa (PDO Naoussa)

A lush and varied area of vineyards. The region takes in the eponymous city and several other communes as well. The wines of PDO Naoussa are always red wines made from 100% Xinomavro. In general, they are sturdy, tannic wines in youth and capable of long ageing. They are the most full-bodied of the Xinomavro appellations. They offer a dazzling display of aromatic complexity, spanning the spectrum of the variety’s aromatic potential.

Xinomavro 

Xinomavro is indigenous to North-Western Greece. Most famously in Naoussa and Amynteo. These intriguing still dry red wines, aged for two years minimum, are noted for their bright pale to deep red colour, high acidity, strong tannins and complex aromatic character. With a multitude of terroirs and elevations combined with Xinomavro’s ability to speak of where it is from, means there is a vast array of styles to be found.
