Tenute Orestiadi Molino a Vento Nerello Mascalese Sicily 2016

$22.00

Nerello Mascaslese is famously from Mt Etna. Perfumed, mineral, spicy, light and fresh. This wine is not super complex, but it is very pleasing to drink.

Description

Nerello Mascalese is most famous for the wines it makes on the east coast on the Volcano called Mt Etna. These wines are grown on the lower altitude, sandy soils towards the east coast. What is does do is capture the beautiful flavours of the grape. Perfumed, mineral, spicy with a lightness and freshness. This wine is not super complex, but it is very pleasing to drink. And if you love it then the next step are the wines of Mt Etna. Pair with mushrooms. Drink over the next 3 years.

Embracing local varieties from their Sicilian home, this vineyard makes delicious wines across multiple ranges and sites.

Sicily

In a constant tussle with Puglia to win the title of largest volume produced each year, the wines of Sicily are as varied as its history. Delicate whites, full bodied reds and of course Marsala show the variation in climate and abilities of the various regions within the Island.

Nerello Mascalese

The two grapes of Etna Rosso are Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappucio. Nerello Mascaslese and  has to be at least 80% of the blend with Cappuccio making up the balance. To my palate Mascalese is the Pinot Noir like elegance and perfume of the blend while Cappuccio is the Merlot richness and roundness. Together they form a might combination.
