Description

In 1830 the Tasca acquired 1200 hectare of land south of Palermo. The estate today holds 360 hectare of vines and is owned by Conte Tasca D’Almerita who promotes the local Sicilian varieties. Using modern techniques they craft lovely wines that retain the Sicilian spirit and offer drinkable and enjoyable wines.

100% Nero d’Avola that has been macerated on skins and fermented in stainless steel. Half the wine is aged in large format Slavonian oak for six months. This is a pleasantly drinkable wine. Red and black cherries, aromatic herbs like sage. The typical Nero d’Avola plushness is instantly recognisable. Soft tannins, lots of fruit and a round finish with a touch of savouriness. No aging required here, just a thirst! I’d look to match this wine with rabbit or kangaroo.

Sicily – In a constant tussle with Puglia to win the title of largest volume produced each year, the wines of Sicily are as varied as its history. Delicate whites, full bodied reds and of course Marsala show the variation in climate and abilities of the various regions within the Island.

Nero d’Avola – Sicily’s boldest red grape. It is capable of getting very ripe, is very charming but can lack acidity. It is often blended with other varieties to balance out its exuberance.
