Description

Swinging Bridge Estate was established in 1995 in Canowindra. Initial plantings of Chardonnay and Shiraz have evolved to include other traditional and no traditional varieties. There is a mixture of traditional wine making and some experimental batches that are released in small quantities.

An amber coloured blend of Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris. Each of the parcels were picked within 24 hours of each other. They were combined and then crushed, destemmed  fermented with wild yeasts . After wards they were left on skins for 4 weeks and then pressed to old french oak barrels for three months.

There is a delightful perfume of rose petals, white peach and raspberry with a savoury, earthy edge. A lovely mouthfeel and clean acid. The medium weight body is refreshing and long finishing. It has the perfect balance of freshness and savoury so it is a drinkable and enjoyable wine.

Orange

Its cool climate and high elevation provide a longer ripening period. This allows for the flavours and structures to gently come into balance and gives the growers a chance to pick when they are ready. Orange is known for bold but elegant reds and whites made from traditional varieties.

Riesling

One of the world’s most noble varieties and known transmitter of terroir. Riesling is an important variety for quality wine production although only makes up approximately 4% of the planted area. In Germany, Austria, Alsace and Australia you’ll find wonderful examples. They can be as dry as any wine you’ll taste or super sweet and luscious. It is a wonderful grape. See more about Riesling here.

Pinot Gris/Grigio

Gris and Grigio are in fact the same variety and both names mean grey in French and Italian respectively. Which is somewhat deceptive because the grapes can be almost blue when ripe. The great wines of Alsace and North Eastern Italy are often made from this variety. It is being widely adopted around the world too. AKA Grauburgunder.

Gewurztramier

Is a highly aromatic and textural variety. It is also one of those varieties that doesn’t play like the others. With only a very small picking window, going from perfect to over ripe in a matter of days. It is naturally low in acid and if you try to adjust it up you get a wine that just feels and tastes wrong. But when it all goes well…. ahhhh perfection.
