Description

In 2005 a Tasmania born and raised couple bought a two hectare vineyard in the heart of the Pipers Brook wine region at the age of 24. They were already worldly (or at least mainlandly) winemakers and since that day they have not looked back. Sinapius are making beautiful wines.

85% Riesling sourced from the Tamar Valley co-fermented with 10% Grüner Veltliner & 5% Pinot Gris sourced from estate grown vines. Very low yields, whole bunch pressed, two thirds fermented and matured in old 500 litre barrels, then remainder in stainless steel. The wine was left on lees for 7 months with occasional battonage and partial malolactic fermentation. This is a fantastic wine that challenges what Australia Riesling is. Exotic, textural and lifted the palate is dry and the flavours linger pleasingly for a long time. Match with a variety of seafood or softer cheese. If you forgot about a bottle and found it 10 years from now you’d be a happy collector.

Tasmania

The beautiful Island south of the Australian mainland that has carved out a reputation for quality sparkling wine and Pinot Noir. Tasmania’s cooler climate regions and longer growing season make it perfect for aromatic styles of wine. A wealth of quality focussed producers have held lift the status of the whole island.

Riesling

One of the world’s most noble varieties and known transmitter of terroir. Riesling is an important variety for quality wine production although only makes up approximately 4% of the planted area. Wonderful wines are found in Germany, Austria, Alsace and Australia. They can be as dry as any wine you’ll taste or super sweet and luscious. It is a wonderful grape. See more about Riesling here.
