Description

Established in 1895, when Edoardo Seghesio planted his first Zinfandel vineyard in Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley. Collected over a century, their 300 acres in pre-eminent growing regions—the Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River valleys—represent some of the oldest vineyards and proprietary clones.

Sweet, dense, earthy and pippy with prunes and red berry fruits. The palate has voluptuous fruit with clean acid and gritty tannins. Although it is quite a mouthfull, this Zin offers a lot of beautiful flavours and textures. Let it breath for a while or better still, leave it until after 2023. Serve it now with dark chocolate or bold flavoured stews.

Sonoma

Not nearly as famous as its neighbour to the East but Sonoma has a casual elegance to the wines and with less hype comes more affordable wines. Sonoma is one of the largest wine grape producers in California. Sonoma is made up of 15 AVAs. Due its size, generalisations are near impossible but it does mean it can offer something for everyone vinously. The best wines of Sonoma easily rival the best of any in America.

Zinfandel

Known as Primitivo in its home in Italy, offers lots of ripe sweet fruits, great density, prunes and a firm tannic and acid backbone. Makes one hell of a winter coat.
