Description

Rob Hall joined the Kellybrook team after spending almost 10 years at Mount Mary. Then he was keen to spread his wings and try some new and interesting things with wines. Since Rob has access to his father’s vineyard near Healesville he decided to give it a run and see what happens. His a Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, both are made for younger drinking, offer great quality and value. His ‘New’ Cabernet is one for the natural wine lovers.

A tight ball of potential at the moment. But the promise is there, hints of red fruits, spice, and oak. Little glimpses of rose petals and game are evident on the light, well balanced but reserved palate. By March 2015 this will be a charming glass of wine. By March 2016 it will be all gone but would have been better still!

Yarra Valley – A region that is just too big to generalise about. The difference between Upper and Lower Yarra can be the ability to ripen some grapes or not. Great wines are made in the Yarra but it is best to know the producers.

Pinot Noir – This is the most elusive grape. It is relatively early ripening and extremely sensitive to terroir. Its perfect place on earth is the Cote d’Or in Burgundy. So haunting are great red Burgundy’s charms that growers everywhere try to emulate them. Pinot Noir is not just a one trick pony, it can make great reds, rosé, sparkling and even sweet wines, whites on occasion and I’ve tasted a decent fortified Pinot Noir too.
