Description

Brothers Salvatore and Paolo Politini moved to Australia from Sicily in 1959. In 1989 they planted vines in the King Valley and launched their own label in 2000. Recent additions of Sicilian varieties in the vineyard further complement their range of wines and add a nice sense of history.

A stunning example of the grape. I tasted this in a blind line up with Sicilian examples and it held its own. Plums, prunes, earth, chocolate, plush and rich. A really satisfying drink. We enjoyed it with slow roasted lamb which was a great success. Cellaring for another 5-10 years might see a little extra depth develop.

King Valley – A picturesque region near Victoria’s snow fields that offers cooler climate wines. A strong Italian heritage in the area means there are a lot of Italian varieties grown.

Nero d’Avola – Sicily’s boldest red grape. It is capable of getting very ripe, is very charming but can lack acidity. It is often blended with other varieties to balance out its exuberance.
