Patrick Sullivan’s Jumpin’ Juice Presents Half Full Yellow

Jumpin’ Juice Yellow is a hard wine to describe. It is intensely aromatic, but it is also earthy with a healthy amount of funk. The palate is dry but still retains that lovely perfume from the nose. Easy to understand after one sip. There is no pretension and no context needed.

Description

Jumpin’ Juice Yellow is a hard wine to describe. It is intensely aromatic, as you might imagine with the Moscato being a key part of the blend. But it is also earthy with a healthy amount of funk. The palate is dry but still retains that lovely perfume from the nose. It is long finishing and has a fair lick of acid. I like it because it is easy to understand after one sip. There is no pretension and no context needed. Sure, if you are looking for a sweet Moscato you’ll be disappointed but otherwise it is a winner.

Patrick Sullivan is a man who isn’t afraid to follow his heart. He travelled. He dropped out of a winemaking course because he didn’t think he would use the information they were teaching. And he has ended up making wines with as little intervention as possible. He now has his own vineyard to source most of his fruit. But Patrick also works with organic or biodynamic growers to make his Jumpin’ Juice wines . Previously he worked on the Thousand Candles vineyard  The most important thing to Patrick is the fruit, if that is perfect then the wine doesn’t need him to do much at all. His wines could be described as ‘natural‘ but he would rather you just enjoy the wine as a drink. Hence the label that is remarkably free of marketing terms.

Service

Drink from now until you run out, and then order more. Serve it icy cold and it’ll sip down easily. Leave it at cellar temperature for all those aromatics to fly around.

Food Matches

Any and nothing. I’d keep it simple though.

Moscato Giallo

Muscat is one of the oldest varieties in the world. Giallo is a particular clone that is used to make the best Moscato d’Asti & Asti (Spumante) in Italy. A very distinctive flavour and balance is evident in this clone.

Chardonnay

The grape that you can plant anywhere, in any climate and do anything to and it will still taste like an OK wine. When people hit the sweet spot of site, climate, cropping and winemaking, Chardonnay becomes a magical wine that will age gracefully but charm you at any age. Chardonnays can range from cool climate lean and citrusy to warmer climate tropical and overt. Oak and lees can add flavouring as can malolactic fermentation.

Sauvignon Blanc

Hero to many, weed to many more. Sauvignon Blanc sure does divide people. The pure expression of Sauvignon fruit is a stunning and exuberant array of tropical fruits with ripe herbs and plant material. It excels in the chalk, clay and sand of the Loire as well as the wonderful vineyards in Bordeaux for dry white and Sauternes production where Semillon curbs its outgoing nature.
