Description

Taking over in 1985 with the Austrian wine scandal still raw it must not have been easy. They drank Bordeaux, Burgundy and Barolo and like the rest of Austrian planted international varieties. But then curiosity took over and slowly they experimented with the native varieties in their best Crus to see what would happen. Now this estate is devoted to the quality local varieties like Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt that provide amazing wines.

Kalk (meaning limestone) and Schiefer (Slate). Source from 12 vineyards all around the town of Jois, Smoke and spice currants plums. Red winey. Tart fleshly, soft, hint sour, long mineral oaky. Long Finishing. A subtle wine that grows in the glass and deserves your attention. Pair with quality dark chocolate. Drink over the next 7 years.

Burgenland

‘Powerful wines from the land of Sunshine’. The large 13,840ha area of Burgenland on the Eastern border offers a great diversity of wine styles. Neusiedlersee in the north is the home of Zweigelt. Mittelburgenland is where Blaufrankisch finds a natural home.

Blaufrankisch

One of the top quality red varieties of Austria grown mainly in Burgenland. The wines are dark, earthy, dense, tannic and acidic.
