Description

On the south escarpment of Lake George, small parcels of fruit from outstanding vineyards are processed into stunning wines. Most of the wines come from the Canberra District but exceptionally good fruit from other regions are fair game too. Nick O’Leary was a finalist in the 2011 Gourmet Traveller Young Winemaker of the Year and since then has continued his path of excellence.

Olives, dark fruits, blue berries and toast oak. Classic regional white pepper and plums evolve with time. The palate is mid weight and juicy with a lot going on. Hints of black slate and bacon add some welcome savoury notes. This is young and vibrant Shiraz with a future yet. Let it for another 5 years at least. Pair this Shiraz from Nick O’Leary with Merricote’s wagyu rump ‘Bourguignon’ heaven.

Canberra District

Although there is heritage back to 1840’s the region really started in 1970’s with experimental blocks being planted. The climate is cool and the elevation is between 300 and 800.Riesling and Shiraz are standout varieties with site determining what other varieties excel.

Shiraz/Syrah

A bit of a chameleon, Shiraz can change how it looks depending on terroir and/or wine maker influence. The Syrah based wines of Northern Rhone are dry and austere while the Shiraz of Barossa is rich and fleshy. A variety that lends itself to long aging but can be drunk at any time of its evolution.
