Description

An inviting wine, especially for those not familiar with Lagrein. It has violets, chocolate, damsons and cloves on the nose. The plush palate is full of silk, tangy notes and fresh fruits. Relatively soft, it is ready to drink now with some pulled pork.

Muri-Gries has 35 hectare of vineyards from the monastery cellar with the another 20 hectares from contract growers. They work the land organically and make the wines in their modern cellar behind ancient monastery walls. Their passion for Lagrein is obvious given it makes up about 70% of their total production.

Lagrein

One of the few red grapes native to the South Tyrol region. Dark fruited, plummy, rustic, mineral, full but not heavy. It has high acid and high tannin levels. You can find some great examples in North East Italy and cooler parts of Australia.

Alto Adige

The surrounding regions of North East Italy are like a playground for lovers of great white wine. The straight varietals and blends offer complex and textural wines that are not seen in many other parts of the world.
