Description

Miss FeeLove is dedicated to it’s namesake, Fiona Gilchrist nee Love, who was lost to cancer in June 2016. The girlfriends of Fee have been the driving force behind the Miss FeeLove wine. Keen to honour their friend with a wine she would love while helping two charities Fiona was close to. The team behind Miss Feelove donate all the proceeds to Cancer In Kids Auxiliary (CIKA) and Love Your Sister.

And the wine is good. I tasted a bottle and found it compelling drinking. Subtle, long and elegant. The wine builds on your palate like a great Chardonnay should and shows a lot of character. This is not a gimmick wine, you’re getting a wine you can enjoy for what is in the glass, not just to help out charity. Not surprising as Rob Hall made the wine. And he is an outstanding winemaker. The fruit comes from Bulong Estate on a north-east facing slope just south of Yarra Junction. Pressed to a new puncheon barrel (500l), and several older hogsheads (300l) for fermentation and maturation. The aroma has a complex mix of stone fruit, citrus, smoky barrel ferment characters, and green tea. The palate is creamy, long and structured with brioche, vanilla and nutty flavours leading to a dry finish. It will reward cellaring for many years.

Rob Hall

Has done some magical things when it comes to wine. He’s worked at big and small places making outstanding quality wines. Most notably he has worked at Mount Mary and Kellybrook. He has also been making wines under his own label sourced from his family vineyard near Healesville and local fruit. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the main wines here, both are made for younger drinking, offering great quality and value. Further releases of interesting parcels sourced from around the Yarra will only add to his legend.

Chardonnay

The grape that you can plant anywhere, in any climate and do anything to and it will still taste like an OK wine. When people hit the sweet spot of site, climate, cropping and winemaking, Chardonnay becomes a magical wine that will age gracefully but charm you at any age. Chardonnays can range from cool climate lean and citrusy to warmer climate tropical and overt. Oak and lees can add flavouring as can malolactic fermentation.

Yarra Valley

A region that is just too big to generalise about. The difference between Upper and Lower Yarra can be the ability to ripen some grapes or not. Great wines are made in the Yarra but it is best to know the producers.
