Description

This Tannat is the proper inky, rich, red, blue and black berry filled Tannat. You get secondary notes of leather, pepper and dark olives. It is plush on the palate and easy to drink. Match it with some beef brisket (might I suggest at Meatmaiden). Drink now until 2022.

Massena started by the non-winemaking pair Jaysen Collins and Dan Standish as a self funded winemaking apprenticeship. Their thirst for knowledge and unbridled enthusiasm lead them to making wines they would happily drink themselves. The partnership grew and evolved into a commercial and critically successful venture with the freedom to make wines on their terms.

Barossa Valley – One of the major wine regions of Australia. Known for making great Shiraz by any standard as well as Grenache, Mataro, Semillon and much more. There has been a lot of work finding the sub-regions that excel for each style and variety planted.

Tannat – A thick skinned red grape high in potent anti-oxidents. It makes darkly coloured wines with monstrous tannins but with underlying depth and complexity. Madiran is obviously Tannat’s happy place judging by the wines. You’re looking for flavours of red, blue and black berries, earth, pepper. Floral notes, dense and silky mouthfeel. Oak is often a flavouring and structural character in the wine too. These wines last for ever. You just need a good cellar.
