2010 was the first Green Man wine to market. It is great to be able to experience an Australian Aglianico with age. Dark, brooding, meaty, earthy plush.

Description

A family of strong Italian heritage who arrived in Australia via England. What else would they plant but Italian varietals when it came time in 2004. Established during a severe drought necessitating hand watering during their establishment years. The current 10 acres of mostly grafted, dry grown vines, both white and red varieties, include Vermentino, Malvasia, Sangiovese, Negro Amaro and Aglianico. Only small amounts of wine are produced each year, 2015 saw 1,500 cases made. The 2010 vintage is the first Green Man wine to market.

Most of all it is great to be able to experience an Australian Aglianico with age. Dark, brooding, meaty, earthy, tar and olives. There is a rather lot of character. The palate is plush, full but soft.

Mount Samaria

The Green Man vineyard is outside of any recognised GI in Australia. Located in foothills on the northern side of the Great Dividing Range. It sits in a wide North/South valley benefiting from almost constant soft breezes. A gently sloping block starting at 350 metres and tapering down to 270 metres. Stony, gravelly, clay loam soils . Secluded and surrounded on three sides by state park and private forest.

Aglianico

Often called the Barolo of the South. It was introduced by the Greeks into Campania and it spread to Basilicata and Puglia. It makes full bodied, well structured and generous wines that age gracefully. Taurasi DOCG and Aglianico del Vulture DOC as the two quality leading regions for this grape.
