Description

Lamarche holds 1.35-hectares of vineyards in the Clos de Vougeot situated in three terroirs. Picked at the same time and vinified into a finer, prettier expression of the Clos.

“A gentle application of wood sets off the intensely earthy dark currant and slightly gamy aromas. This resembles the Malconsorts in terms of its robust muscularity on the broad shouldered flavors that possess excellent punch while delivering a touch of animale character on the youthfully austere and persistent finish. This isn’t a wine of finesse but it is impressively scaled and clearly built-to-age.” 91-94 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, Issue 61

“The 2014 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a very comely bouquet with potent red cherry, fresh strawberry and orange blossom aromas, one of the best this vintage, imbued with breeding and sophistication. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a dash of spice on the entry, nicely structured with a very harmonious, slightly masculine, still quite spicy finish. There is a lot to like here.” 91-93 points, Neal Martin, eRobertParker.com #222

Since 2007 the Domaine’s 6th generation, Nicole and Nathalie Lamarche, who now control every aspect of Domaine François Lamarche’s operations. Nicole Lamarche in charge of the vineyards and winemaking. Nathalie has had the role of régisseur, or general manager. Seriously reduced yields, organic viticulture (certified from 2010), gentle grape handling, having stopped fining or filtering and using less new wood used.

Aromatic, finessed, subte, silky, seductive wines. Their land holdings are amazing. Domaine François Lamarche are sole owners of La Grande Rue – one of the four, legendary Grand Cru monopoles of Vosne-Romanée. As well as holding choice parcels of Echézeaux, Grands Echézeaux, Clos de Vougeot, Suchots, Chaumes and Malconsorts.

Clos de Vougeot

A Grand Cru vineyard that divides people like no other. It is large and has plots that excel and those that can be disappointing. The quality can vary so producer is all important. Nice structure, plenty of fruit weight and complexity. The wines can be great value and reward aging.

Pinot Noir

This is the most elusive grape. It is relatively early ripening and extremely sensitive to terroir. Its perfect place on earth is the Cote d’Or in Burgundy. So haunting are great red Burgundy’s charms that growers everywhere try to emulate them. Pinot Noir is not just a one trick pony, it can make great reds, rosé, sparkling and even sweet wines, whites on occasion and I’ve tasted a decent fortified Pinot Noir too.
