Description

Francois Lamarche holds 1.35-hectares of vineyards in the Clos de Vougeot situated in three terroirs. Picked at the same time and vinified into a finer, prettier expression of the Clos.

“An adroit application of oak frames the exceptionally fresh earthy red currant and plum suffused nose. There is a lovely restraint to the markedly intricate and precise medium-bodied flavors that display moderate austerity on the impressively persistent and mouth coating finish. Patience will be required though this should not be unduly forbidding in its youth.” 91-93 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, Issue #49

Since 2007 the Domaine’s 6th generation, Nicole and Nathalie Lamarche, who now control every aspect of Domaine François Lamarche’s operations. Nicole Lamarche in charge of the vineyards and winemaking. Nathalie has had the role of régisseur, or general manager. Seriously reduced yields, organic viticulture (certified from 2010), gentle grape handling, having stopped fining or filtering and using less new wood used.

Aromatic, finessed, subte, silky, seductive wines. Their land holdings are amazing. Domaine François Lamarche are sole owners of La Grande Rue – one of the four, legendary Grand Cru monopoles of Vosne-Romanée. As well as holding choice parcels of Echézeaux, Grands Echézeaux, Clos de Vougeot, Suchots, Chaumes and Malconsorts.

Clos de Vougeot

A Grand Cru vineyard that divides people like no other. It is large and has plots that excel and those that can be disappointing. The quality can vary so producer is all important. Nice structure, plenty of fruit weight and complexity. The wines can be great value and reward aging.

Pinot Noir

This is the most elusive grape. It is relatively early ripening and extremely sensitive to terroir. Its perfect place on earth is the Cote d’Or in Burgundy. So haunting are great red Burgundy’s charms that growers everywhere try to emulate them. Pinot Noir is not just a one trick pony, it can make great reds, rosé, sparkling and even sweet wines, whites on occasion and I’ve tasted a decent fortified Pinot Noir too.
