Description

The Riserva is made from two tonnes of the Brunello clone Sangiovese which came from Greenstone Vineyard. This vineyard had previous demonstrates that Heathcote has the ability to make world class Sangiovese.De-stemmed grapes were cold soaked for 7 days at 8 degrees
Natural ferment occurred and only hand plunged throughout it’s two week fermentation. It was moved into seasoned French oak barrels (15% new oak) where it was left untouched for 18 months in barrel. No racking and no sulphur. Wine was unfined, unfiltered and bottled with minimal SO2 added.

Dense, silky, full of character and with some fine tannins. The is cherries, spice, chocolate, violets, currants and a lot more. Drinking well from now but it will evolve and change with time in the bottle, leave some until after 2022. Serve with roast lamb with rosemary.

Foster e Rocco is a wonderful team up between Adam Foster and Lincoln Riley. They are low BS wines that are made to be yummy and drinkable. On both counts they score big ticks. Their Sangiovese Rose is one of the best roses in Australia and their other projects with Sangiovese are not far behind. Wines that are released ready to drink and priced to sell.

Heathcote – The glamour region of Victoria for lovers of big reds. And the core production is Shiraz and Cabernet with ‘guts’. But it is a region that offers a lot of diversity when you scratch the surface. The cooler southern parts border Macedon and make lovely aromatic wines. There is a lot of experimentation and adoption of more drought resistant Italian varieties to great effect too.

Sangiovese – Widely cultivated across Italy from Emilia-Romagna to Campania and producing as much wine as Barbera. A wide range of clones and hugely diverse growing conditions sees the variety represent easy drinking ‘quaffers’, all the way to benchmarks such as Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti, Sangiovese di Romagna and Morellino di Scansano.
