It tastes more of the Rhone Valley then Gamay because of the mineral and meaty notes. It is a fascinating drink.

Description

Coming from a part of the Loire that is a fair way inland and in an appeallation that is Gamay country. They are on to their 5th generation who is converting the vineyards to organic viticulture and maintaining the high standards of quality.

Tart, perfumed, savoury and mineral with floral notes and red fruits. It has an extra level of depth that only the great Gamay shows. If I was given this blind I would be thinking more of the Rhone Valley then Gamay because of the mineral and meaty notes. It is a fascinating drink. I’d match with Matteo’s tempura eggplant dish. You might see some extra weight build over the next few years, have another taste in 2020.

Cote Roannaise – Located near the very source of the Loire River situated on the foothills of the Massif Central, the 200 hectares. The region is primarily sandy granite soil, with a south-southeast exposure and between 350 and 450 meters in altitude.

Loire Valley Can any white wine rival Loire Valley Chenin Blanc for elegance, grace and poise in the cellar? Definitely some Rieslings would give it a run but not much else. Chenin, whether sweet or dry, produces wines with a lovely balance of taut, unrelenting acidity and pillowy soft fruit that sits on top. The best wines, think Savennières, Vouvray and Montlouis, can age for a surprisingly long time (25, 50, 100 years even). Only surprising due to the amazing balance the best producers can find in the wine. Then you get stuck into the stunning sparkling wines that are such great value too and the reds from Cabernet Franc that will make lovers of Burgundy or Bordeaux swoon.

Gamay – Grown in the French regions of Beaujolais and Loire Valley. It is early budding, high cropping, aromatic and high acid. It was outlawed from Burgundy by Duke Philippe the Bold for being disloyal but has no doubt made up for that with honourable service. The best wines from Gamay can be Burgundian in flavour and well worth seeking out. Often they are exceptionally good value too.
