Description

This is pretty charming. Plush, full, ripe and dripping with stonefruits and tangy quince and mandarin. The palate is robust and full of weight and flavour that lingers. I’m not sure about aging potential, it runs the risk of getting too big. Food matching is easy, roast chicken with plenty of lemon and garlic or baked white fleshed fish.

Named after the wine makers Grandmother, this is a small 5.5 hectare run using biodynamic practices. The started planting in 1997 with a variety of aromatic styles and from their Otago base they’ve grabbed a few headlines.

Central Otago – Grabbed more then their share of world renown for full bodied and powerful Pinot. Searching beyond you’ll find pockets of fascinating wines from subregional experiments to aromatic whites.

Chardonnay – The grape that you can plant anywhere, in any climate and do anything to and it will still taste like an OK wine. When people hit the sweet spot of site, climate, cropping and winemaking, Chardonnay becomes a magical wine that will age gracefully but charm you at any age. Chardonnays can range from cool climate lean and citrusy to warmer climate tropical and overt. Oak and lees can add flavouring as can malolactic fermentation.
