Description

Cullen Kevin John is the old Chardonnay vines planted in 1976-1988. Cullen Kevin John is 100% Gin Gin clone which is what made Margaret River famous.

The two things here that lift this wine above the pack are texture and length, and both are unquestionably impressive. There’s zing and chalk, intensity, and a lingering aftertaste. In among all that there’s ripe lime, spicy oak, mint nougat, dried pear and cashew. Power delivered on rails of zesty acidity, a saline character, oak certainly present, but not overdone. It’s the very model of a modern Chardonnay. It’s a beauty.” Gary Walsh 96 Points The Wine Front, 10 March, 2020

With some of the first vines planted in the Margaret River, the Cullen family have made good use of them becoming one of the quality leaders of the West if not the whole of Australia. Excellent wines across the range. Using biodynamic farming and the highest amount of care and attention to make these wines. Their work with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and the Cabernet family is amazing; the fruit concentration, mineral drive and ageability are real highlights.

Margaret River

Three hours south of Perth is this land of Cabernet and Chardonnay. Right on the ocean, the climate allows the grapes to mature slowly on the vine. The wines are more powerful in the North and more elegant in the south. The best wines are world-class and are priced to reflect this.

Chardonnay

The grape that you can plant anywhere, in any climate and do anything to and it will still taste like an OK wine. When people hit the sweet spot of site, climate, cropping and winemaking, Chardonnay becomes a magical wine that will age gracefully but charm you at any age. Chardonnays can range from cool-climate lean and citrusy to warmer climate tropical and overt. Oak and lees can add flavouring as can malolactic fermentation.
