Description

This is one of the great wines of the Hawkes Bay sub region of Gimblett Gravels. Mineral, dark, spicy, violets and fine grained tannins. The palate is savoury, silky and long finishing. The structure is quite cleansing and therefore moreish. This is a wine that does give instant appeal but cellaring for a further 7 years will see some savoury elements meld into the wine. Pair with beef carpaccio.

New Zealand winery Craggy Range is now quite large producer, covering all the best regions in the North and South Islands. But don’t let their size fool you. They are a serious about every step and are putting out some of the best wines from NZ.

Hawkes Bay

A flagship region of the North Island of New Zealand. The terroirs can be quite diverse allowing producers to excel at Cabernet (and blends), Syrah and Chardonnay.

Shiraz/Syrah

A bit of a chameleon, Shiraz can change how it looks depending on terroir and/or wine maker influence. The Syrah based wines of Northern Rhone are dry and austere while the Shiraz of Barossa is rich and fleshy. A variety that lends itself to long aging but can be drunk at any time of its evolution.
