$380.00

A real star of the vintage. Leave it for the long haul though.

Description

A second growth in St-Estephe that is in fact adjacent to Lafite-Rothschild in Pauillac (two of my favourite estate right there). They make stunning reds know for fragrance (five spice is a hallmark), longevity and elegance. Cos d’Estournel is without a doubt one of the great left bank producers. They have 70 hectare of vines with Cabernet Sauvignon 60% and Merlot 38%. and tiny portions  of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The second and third label reds along with some stunning whites makes this a one stop shot of quality, if somewhat expensive Bordeaux.

A stunning effort, it was a difficult vintage and this wine has not just survived by has thrived. Ripe, plummy, five spice, great fragrance. Still all bone and sinew on the palate, leave it until 2021 and you’ll be amazed just how good this wine can be. Great producers earn their reputation in difficult years.

St-Estephe

The Northern most appellation in the 1885 classification the higher levels of clay makes for denser wines with good fruit richness and plush palate. St-Estephe only has five classified growths but it is a case of quality over quantity.

2011

One of the hardest and most disappointing vintages in recent Bordeaux history. Experiencing both excessive heat and rain led to wines that were lighter, less concentrated and sometimes on the green side. Early ripening terroirs and Merlot tended to be more successful.
