Description

Half owned by Bordeaux Baron Andre Lurton this estate is situated on a ridge of clay and limestone in Lussac, facing the best slopes of St Emilion. A few other wines are producer here with this wine being focused on soft and tasty wines.

This is dense but perfumed, floral and earthy with a fleshy mid-palate and scores high on Phil’s drinkability scale. Mostly Merlot with 15% Cabernet Franc it is a rather charming look into the right bank wines of Bordeaux. A beautiful drink now, it won’t fall over in the near future and will pair with Boeuf Bourguignon.

Lussac St-Emilion – Neighbouring the outstanding St-Emilion appellation itself there are parts of the region that share similar soil make up with St-Emilion. They can only release red wines and Merlot being the favoured grape supported by Cabernet Franc. The wines don’t tend to be as impressive in terms of quality or price tag as St-Emilion.

Merlot – It gets a tough time most of the places it is grown. But in Pomerol and Saint-Emilion Merlot not only dominates but makes some of the best wines in the world. Perfume, silky and plush. Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon season the wines with structure and acid but in some places, like Petrus they are almost not needed.

2009 – Having tasted a few vintages of Bordeaux in my time I have no doubt that this will be one of the best in the modern era. I feel that 2010 is on a par for different reasons and 2005 exceeds them both, but it is a small margin.
